For ex-convicts coming out of prison, life can be tough when you have to basically start all over again. Usually for felons coming out of prison, you probably don’t have much money but you want to integrate back into society. There are a few paths that felons can take after getting out of prison. You may want to start a new career or perhaps even start your own business. With the first option, you may need to get some new training or go back to school. With the second option you will need some capital to start a business. Either way, you will need money to undertake either venture.
If you plan on going back to school, you can ask the institution where you are applying to see if there are grants available to you. Tell them your situation and they will find something that suits you. For most people, they can apply for a Pell grant. This type of grant is for people that make under a certain income where the grant helps them to pay for school. You can get an application through the school that you are applying or you can go to FAFSA.ed.gov to fill out the application. While that is one grant that you can apply for, there are many others that you may also apply for. Many other grants are provided by organizations or businesses which can be found by going to grants.gov.
If you are planning on starting a business, you might be able to get grants through businesses that are willing to help felons. When you are looking for grants, you should be prepared by having a ready and sound business plan. There are many people that are trying to get the few grants that are available so you have to be head and shoulders above the rest. Although felons are supposedly treated equally as with everyone else, it can sometimes be tougher for felons due some prejudice. You just have to keep trying and applying for as many grants as you can.
